Are you on Life Support?

Have you learned how to give? Or do you take all the time?

“What?!” you ask, isn’t this a site for young men?

Why in the world would I even think about my readers being on Life Support?

Well, now that you asked….. See, the thing is, are you
able to live on your own or do you need someone (or something) to support
you? A person is put on life support when their own systems don’t work
and they would die without the help of a machine. This is a very sad
situation, not having the freedom to move about, not being able to take care of
yourself, not being able to help anyone. Most of us would say that it
would be better to be dead than to have to live like that, but I ask you, are
you on Life Support? Are you depending on someone or something else to
keep you alive? Are you using your parents, grandparents or other
relative’s generosity to keep you alive?

I have seen situations where the child has to live with the
parents because they can’t or won’t live on their own. They are lost, not
working for their own bread or sustenance, happy to have others provide for
them. Does this describe your situation? Are you receiving help
from others in order to survive? Think about it, who pays your rent, your
food, your gas, your car, your recreation money? Are you getting

Hand outs can come in a lot of different forms. There
are obvious ones like someone handing you money or giving you a car or letting
you stay in their home. Think about where all your money is coming
from. Are people giving you anything?

Another place that we get handouts from is the
government. Are you getting unemployment money, welfare, food help or any
other type of government hand out? If you are, those of us that pay taxes
are forced to give them to you. That is even worse than getting hand outs
from your family and relatives. At least they have a choice to give you

Well, why not accept money that
is being given to you? A simple answer, are you a parasite or a
producer? In Ephesians 4:28 says “Let him who steals steal no
longer; but rather let him labor, performing with his own hands what is good,
in order that he may have something to share with him who has
need.” Notice that the opposite of stealing is giving. Paul here
tells us that we need to arrive at the financial state that we have more money
than we need for ourselves and we can give to others that are in need.
The people in need are not young men, they might be people that have suffered a
terrible loss. As long as you are accepting help from others, you are on
the “Stealing” side of this equation. You have to get away from that and
move to the generous side.

Another verse is: 1
Thessalonians 4:10-12
But we urge you, brethren, to excel still
more, 11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and
attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded
you; 12 so that you may behave properly toward outsiders and
not be in any need.

What this is saying is that you can “excel” if you lead a quiet
life and you mind your business, this phrase means that you have your own
business, that you do not depend on others but that you work with your
hands and to not be in need.

So, it is pretty obvious that God wants you to work and
not be dependent on others but to get yourself into a position where you can
help others.

Take a look at your current position, who is supporting
you? Who pays your cell phone bill? Who pays your for your
clothing? Who pays your electric bill? Who is keeping you alive?
Look at yourself and ask yourself if you are on financial life support?
Now, make it your goal to get off these machines and get yourself into the
position of not only being off life support but being able to help
others! Get out of that pitiful state and be healthy like you should be!

Support yourself, then you can support others.
